Correction: In Journal stories, published Tuesday and Wednesday, it was incorrectly reported that a woman on trial for public mischief accuses Edmonton Police Const. Sam Pulvermacher of sexually assaulting her in police holding cells. The woman actually accuses him of physically assaulting her. Her sexual assault complaint is against Const. Tom Bechthold, whom she also accuses of physical assault. /P 980502 A2 Retraction And Apology: Journal stories of April 28 and April 29 published substantively incorrect statements with regard to City of Edmonton police officer Sam Pulvermacher. Reporting on the trial of Bonny Ambrose, The Journal wrongly reported Ambrose had alleged that Mr. Pulvermacher sexually assaulted her while she was in custody in September 1996. No such allegation was made against Mr. Pulvermacher and The Journal retracts reports to the contrary. The allegation was in fact made about someone else and in any event, a court has convicted Ambrose of public mischief, finding that the allegation was false. No allegations of sexual misconduct were made against Mr. Pulvermacher in respect to this or any other incident. The Journal apologizes to Sam Pulvermacher for any hurt or embarrassment the reports caused. [Correction] /P 980605 A2
