The former chief of the Edmonton Police Service is suing the CBC claiming he was defamed by stories that ran on the corporation’s networks.
In a statement of claim, Bob Wasylyshen says he was maliciously defamed by a story on CBC-TV’s Disclosure about allegations of police misconduct involving prostitutes.
The allegations against nine police officers were made in the 1980s. Wasylyshen was the only officer named in the CBC reports.
The statement of claim says Wasylyshen, who retired as police chief in March, has suffered significant damage to his personal and professional reputation.
In March, the police commission said it wouldn’t launch an investigation into the allegations.
