Police should not be investigating themselves (letter)

Re: ” Head of police commission staying put,” Journal, Sept. 3.
Edmonton Police Service officers have a tough job. They must deal with the very worst and most vile people in our society. I often wonder why anyone would choose to be in that position. However, having said that, the EPS also has a very real problem - they do not want anyone questioning their activities, actions, methods, etc. They are a law unto themselves and how dare anyone question their activities. They monitor and police themselves and they like it that way( although it does not work ). All allegations of misconduct and other complaints are investigated by fellow officers.
This totally biased review results in virtually all complaints being found to be “unsubstantiated.”
