A city cop accused of leaving two strip-club waitresses unsupervised in a police headquarters lounge is still too stressed to continue with his disciplinary hearing.
The hearing, which was to resume today after being postponed two months ago due to Cst. Sebastian Berube’s stress-related medical problems, was again put off, this time until May 7.
If Berube’s problems persist, his doctors might be called to testify about the medical and psychiatric issues that are stopping him from coming to the hearings.
Berube is up on five allegations of misconduct – one count of insubordination and four counts of deceit – stemming from a Feb. 20, 2005, incident at downtown HQ.
The Edmonton Police Service alleges Berube escorted two waitresses from the Crazy Horse Men’s Club to the Constable’s Lounge inside headquarters.
The EPS says he then failed to adequately supervise and remain with his guests.
He’s also accused of lying about his involvement in the incident during a subsequent internal affairs probe.
This morning, presiding officer Supt. Mark Logar ordered EPS human resources staff to give him updates on Berube’s condition every two weeks.
Berube was suspended without pay last June 15 after he allegedly violated the parking ban on Whyte Avenue during the hockey playoffs and then struggled with cops after being asked to move his vehicle.
His pay was reinstated Jan. 31.
